SunCulture Advances Climate Resilience with First Insurance Payout Cycle in Kenya
SunCulture is pleased to announce the successful completion of the first payout cycle under its climate insurance program in Kenya. The initiative is delivered in partnership with IBISA Networks (product design and trigger monitoring) and APA Insurance (underwriter, reinsured by Africa Re), with support of Humanity Insured.
The program is designed to strengthen resilience for smallholder farmers by integrating climate risk protection directly into agricultural solutions, ensuring farmers are better supported during periods of adverse weather.
Program Overview
The parametric insurance solution uses data-driven weather triggers to determine payouts, enabling a transparent and efficient response when climate conditions fall below defined thresholds.
The first payout cycle covered the October to December 2025 season across farming regions in Kenya.
Key Results
a) 2,087 customers were covered during the period
b) 1,738 customers received payouts totaling KES 1,937,088
c) Coverage increased steadily over the season, from 356 customers in October to 898 in December
Operational Update
The first cycle was completed within approximately one month. SunCulture is currently working with APA insurance to further improve system integrations and automate future payout processes or faster delivery.
Looking Ahead
SunCulture remains committed to expanding access to climate risk protection for smallholder farmers. The program is set to expand into Uganda, extending climate resilience solutions to more farming communities in the region.
