Brendah Wangari – 5 years in and still enjoying every day

Brendah Wangari joined SunCulture in 2017 as an Agronomy intern, now she oversees the day-to-day activities of the PAYG team in her current position as the PAYG Assistant Manager. Before this position, she was a Relationship Manager handling collections and client relationships in her assigned portfolio.

Her agronomy experience provides her with a unique understanding of farmer clients and payment patterns which help in targeting collections, especially around the harvest period.

YOU JOINED SUNCULTURE 5 YEARS AGO, IMPRESSIVE! WHAT CONTINUES TO INSPIRE YOU EVERY DAY?

My team is just a group of amazing people. We are driven by interactions, with our customers, amongst ourselves, and with the broader dream team in SunCulture. My career in SunCulture started in 2017, 5 years ago, an eternity in start-up world. It has been a wild ride, I was an intern and now I manage this amazing team.

WHY IS WORKING ON A SOCIAL GOAL IMPORTANT FOR YOU?
Cause you feel you are truly adding value. When I speak to a customer and they tell you the journey they took, from humble beginning to truly building a prosperous life, I know I’m in the right place. Bottom line, I enjoy working every day.

HOW IMPORTANT IS YOUR AGRICULTURE BACKGROUND IN YOUR DAY-TO-DAY?

Understanding the agricultural calendar helps me understand our customer microeconomics better and this helps us to achieve better results. My agricultural background also helps me to understand the regional differences. Kenya is vast and diverse, not all customers are the same. SunCulture being a credit-driven organisation, this understanding is key.

HOW DO YOU RELAX AFTER A HEAVY WORK WEEK?

Depending on how the week went, I’ll either stay at home, get comfy, watch some Turkish dramas, and crochet, but sometimes I go out and experience the beauty of Nairobi.
